Caitlin Fisher (Canada)

EN Oeuvres pour touchPads

Caitlin Fisher’s research and creative work investigates the future of narrative through explorations of interactive storytelling in augmented reality environments and the creation of expressive software tools that enable nonprogrammers to work in these environments. Co-founder of York’s Future Cinema Lab, and Director of York’s  Augmented Reality Lab, she writes digital fiction and poetry and holds a Canada Research Chair in Digital Culture at York University, Toronto, where she is also an Associate Professor in the Film Department. Caitlin is also an executive member of HASTAC – the Humanities Arts, Science, Technology Advanced Collaboratory and a 2012  Fulbright Research Chair. Her work is poetic and exploratory, currently combining the development of authoring software with evocative  literary constructs. She completed Canada’s first born-digital hypertextual dissertation, and her hypermedia novella, These Waves of Girls, won the Electronic Literature Organization Award for Fiction. Her augmented reality poem, Andromeda, was co-awarded the Vinaròs Prize for Electronic Literature. Most recently, her augmented reality tabletop theatre piece, Circle, was shortlisted in 2011 for the UK New Media Writing Prize and was awarded the 2012 jury prize by the Electronic Literature Organization. Increasingly her work deals with large  repositories of data and interactive immersive visualizations as Fisher sits on the executive of the Centre for Innovation in Information Visualization and Data-Driven Design, an $11M project housed at York University. She is 45 years old.
